Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected demands by the US government that Tel Aviv cease construction of settler units in occupied Jerusalem al-Quds. Speaking at a press conference in Rwanda, Netanyahu said Tel Aviv would not accept White House calls for restrictions on construction in the occupied West Bank. He made the remarks after the US administration criticized the illegal Israeli settlement projects. Tel Aviv has remained defiant despite growing international condemnations after it approved the construction of some 800 units in and around East Jerusalem al-Quds. On Tuesday, UN chief Ban Ki-moon slammed Israel’s decision while the Middle East Quartet last week urged an end to Israel’s illegal settlement construction.
